Webinar opening script template: the first 3 minutes

Updated November 2, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte

In short. The first two to three minutes, about 200 to 300 words, set the whole webinar: welcome people as they join, cover the housekeeping, say who you are in one line, promise three clear takeaways, and invite questions in the chat.

The template

Replace everything in [brackets] before you read. Each paragraph becomes one card. 101 words as written, before you fill in the brackets.

Hi everyone, and welcome to [webinar title]. People are still joining, so I’ll give it a few seconds.

While we wait, tell me in the chat where you’re joining from.

A few quick things: the session lasts [duration], it’s being recorded, and you’ll get the replay by email. Please put your questions in [the chat / the Q&A tab]; I’ll answer them at the end.

I’m [your name], [one line on your experience].

Today, you’ll learn three things: [takeaway one], [takeaway two], and [takeaway three].

By the end, you’ll be able to [the concrete result].

Let’s get started with [first topic].

How to make it yours

  1. Fill the first minute

Asking where people are joining from keeps early arrivals busy while others connect.

  2. Housekeeping in one breath

Duration, recording, replay, questions. Then move on.

  3. Promise three takeaways

People stay for what they were promised; make it concrete.

  4. Read it on a prompter

A browser prompter right under your webcam keeps eye contact while you read the opening.

Record it on iPhone
