Podcast intro script template (with video podcast tips)
Updated November 2, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte
In short. A podcast intro should take 30 to 60 seconds, about 70 to 140 words: open with the best line of the episode, say what the show is and who it is for, introduce today’s guest or topic, and start the conversation.
The template
Replace everything in [brackets] before you read. Each paragraph becomes one card. 73 words as written, before you fill in the brackets.
[Cold open: the most surprising sentence from this episode.]
Welcome to [podcast name], the show where [what the show is about and who it is for]. I’m [your name].
Today, I’m talking with [guest name], [one line on who they are and why they matter].
We get into [topic one], [topic two], and [the moment the episode is worth staying for].
[Guest first name], thanks for being here. Let’s start with [first question].
How to make it yours
Lead with the best clip
The first ten seconds decide whether people keep listening; use your strongest line.
Same promise every week
Keep the show description identical across episodes so listeners recognise it.
Read it on camera for video podcasts
A prompter under the lens keeps eye contact while you read the intro word for word.
Then drop the script
The intro is scripted; the conversation should not be.
