Reel and TikTok script template (30 seconds)

Updated November 2, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte

In short. A 30-second Reel is about 70 to 90 words: a hook in the first three seconds, two or three quick points, a payoff, and a reason to follow. Record vertically with the script right under the front camera so your eyes stay on the lens.

The template

Replace everything in [brackets] before you read. Each paragraph becomes one card. 51 words as written, before you fill in the brackets.

[Hook: under ten words, a bold claim or a question.]

Here are [number] things [your audience] gets wrong about [topic].

One: [point one, one sentence].

Two: [point two, one sentence].

Three: [point three, one sentence].

[Payoff: the surprising takeaway or the result.]

Follow for [what they’ll get from your next videos].

How to make it yours

  1. Say the hook in the first second

No intro, no name, no “so”. Start mid-thought.

  2. One line per point

Short-form moves fast; one sentence per idea is plenty.

  3. Batch five at once

Write five scripts, set up once, record them all in one session.

  4. Let the prompter keep up

Short-form is fast; a voice-following prompter keeps pace and waits on the beat before the payoff.

FAQ

How many words is a 30-second Reel?

About 70 words at a normal pace, up to 90 if you speak fast.

Should I script short videos?

Yes. Scripting the hook and the payoff makes the biggest difference; the middle can be looser.
