Teleprompter for Zoom, Teams and Google Meet (free, in your browser)

Updated October 27, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte

Short answer. Open a browser teleprompter in a narrow window right under your webcam, with large text and only a few words per line. Your eyes stay close to the lens, so on the call you look at people instead of at your notes. Our free online teleprompter does this with no download.

Set it up in two minutes

  1. Open the online teleprompter in its own browser window and paste your notes.
  2. Make the window narrow and drag it to the top of the screen, just under the webcam. Narrow lines mean your eyes barely move.
  3. Set a large text size and a slow speed, or turn on Follow my voice so the text moves only when you talk.
  4. Join the call in another window. Zoom, Teams and Meet keep running in the background while you read.

Where to put it

The closer the words are to the camera, the more you seem to look at people. On a laptop, that is the top centre of the screen. With an external webcam on a second monitor, put the prompter window on the monitor that holds the camera.

Don’t share the wrong screen

If you share your screen during the call, share a single window or app, not the whole desktop, or the audience will see your script.

Tips for calls

  • Use notes, not a full script, for the parts where you answer questions.
  • Read your opening word for word, then switch to keywords: calls are conversations.
  • Pause the prompter with the space bar when someone interrupts.

From your phone instead

You can also prop an iPhone just under the webcam and read from it. SmoothCue’s Read without filming mode turns it into a prompter that follows your voice, without filming.

FAQ

Can I use a teleprompter on Zoom?

Yes. Zoom has no built-in prompter, but a browser teleprompter in a small window under your webcam works with Zoom, Teams, Meet and any other call app.

Will people see my script?

Not unless you share your whole screen. Share a single window instead.

Does it work on Mac and Windows?

Yes. It runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox; voice follow needs Chrome, Edge or Safari.
