Free teleprompter for Mac and MacBook (no download)

Updated October 27, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte

Short answer. You don’t need to install anything: our free online teleprompter runs in Safari or Chrome on any Mac, with a steady scroll from 40 to 260 words per minute, voice follow, mirror mode and full screen.

How to use it on a Mac

  1. Open the online teleprompter in Safari or Chrome.
  2. Paste your script. It stays saved in your browser for next time; nothing is uploaded.
  3. Pick the speed, or tick Follow my voice and allow the microphone.
  4. Press Start. Space pauses, ← and → change the speed, Esc stops.

Where to put it on a MacBook

The FaceTime camera sits in the middle of the top edge, inside the notch on recent MacBooks. Don’t read in full screen: make the window narrow and place it right under the notch, so your eyes stay on the camera axis. Full screen is better with an external camera on a tripod.

Recording on a Mac at the same time

To film yourself, open QuickTime Player (File › New Movie Recording) or Photo Booth, and keep the prompter window on top, under the camera. For screen recordings with your face, OBS or Loom work the same way.

On iPhone instead

If you film with your phone, the script needs to be on the phone, under the front camera. SmoothCue does that, follows your voice and saves the take to Photos.
