Toast at work: end-of-year and team celebration speech template

Updated November 2, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte

In short. A work toast should be short: one to two minutes, about 150 to 250 words. Thank the team, name one or two concrete wins and the people behind them, say one thing about what comes next, and raise a glass.

The template

Replace everything in [brackets] before you read. Each paragraph becomes one card. 107 words as written, before you fill in the brackets.

Can I have everyone’s attention for one minute? I promise it’s only one.

First, thank you. This year we [the big picture: what the team achieved or survived].

I want to mention two moments. [Win one, and who made it happen.] And [win two, and who made it happen].

None of that happens without [the people who are rarely thanked: support, operations, the night shift].

Next year, we’re going to [one goal, said simply]. I can’t think of a better team to do it with.

So please raise your glasses. To [team or company], to [one word for the year], and to everyone in this room. Cheers!

How to make it yours

  1. Name people

Two names with specific wins mean more than “everyone did great”.

  2. Thank the invisible

Mention the teams that are rarely on stage; people remember it.

  3. One goal for next year

A toast is not a strategy meeting. One sentence is enough.

  4. Stop while they’re smiling

If it runs past two minutes, people start looking at their drinks.

FAQ

How long should a toast at work be?

One to two minutes. Longer speeches belong on a stage with slides, not at a party.

Who gives the toast at a company party?

Usually the manager or founder, but a short toast from a team lead or a long-serving colleague often lands better.
