Maid of honor speech template (3 minutes, fill in the blanks)
Updated November 2, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte
In short. Aim for about three minutes, roughly 380 words: introduce yourself, share one story that shows who the bride is, say how her partner fits into her life, and finish with a toast to both of them.
The template
Replace everything in [brackets] before you read. Each paragraph becomes one card. 152 words as written, before you fill in the brackets.
Hi everyone, I’m [your name]. I’ve been [bride]’s [sister / best friend / cousin] for [number] years, which means I’ve seen her through [a few phases: bad haircuts, exams, questionable boyfriends].
Thank you all for being here, and thank you to [hosts] for a perfect day.
If you know [bride], you know she’s [one quality]. The best example I have is [your story: three or four sentences, specific and kind].
That’s her in a nutshell: [what the story says about her].
When she first told me about [partner], [what she said or how she looked]. I’d never seen her like that.
[Partner], thank you for [one thing they do for her]. You fit into our [family / group of friends] like you’d always been there.
[Bride], I’m so proud of you, and so happy for you.
So let’s raise our glasses: to [bride] and [partner], and to [a wish for them]. Cheers!
How to make it yours
Talk about both of them
Most of the speech is about the bride, but give her partner real lines, not just the toast.
Specific beats general
“She drove four hours to fix my flat tyre” says more than “she’s always there for people”.
Check the story with someone
Run anything embarrassing past a friend of the couple first.
Keep your notes discreet
A phone held at chest height with the text following your voice looks better than a folded sheet.
