Father of the bride speech template (with examples)
Updated November 2, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte
In short. The father of the bride usually welcomes everyone, shares one memory of his daughter, welcomes her partner into the family and proposes a toast. Keep it to three or four minutes, about 420 words, and let the emotion come from one specific memory.
The template
Replace everything in [brackets] before you read. Each paragraph becomes one card. 148 words as written, before you fill in the brackets.

A special welcome to [partner]’s family. We’re delighted that our families are joining today.
[Number] years ago, [bride] [a memory from her childhood: one short, specific scene].
Even then, she was [one quality], and she still is today. [One sentence on how that quality shows now.]
As a father, you wonder who will be good enough for your daughter. Then [partner] came along, and [the moment you knew they were right for each other].
[Partner], welcome to the family. We’re proud to have you — and good luck: [a gentle joke about your daughter].
[Bride], your mother and I are so proud of the woman you’ve become. [One sincere sentence.]
Please join me in raising your glasses. To [bride] and [partner]: [a wish for them].
How to make it yours
Thank before you tell stories
As one of the hosts, you open by welcoming guests and the other family.
One childhood memory
A single scene, told in a few sentences, moves people more than a life story.
Welcome the partner warmly
This is the line the partner’s family will remember.
Pause before the toast
With a prompter that follows your voice, you can stop as long as you need; the text waits.
