Mirror teleprompter online: flip text for teleprompter glass

Updated October 27, 2026 · Anthony Delmotte

Short answer. Teleprompter glass reflects the screen, so the text must be flipped horizontally to read the right way round. Tick Mirror in our free online teleprompter, lay the screen under the glass and read through it, straight into the lens.

Why the text must be mirrored

A teleprompter rig has a sheet of beam-splitter glass at 45° in front of the camera. The screen lies below it and the glass reflects it toward you, which flips the image left to right. Mirroring the text cancels that flip. The camera, behind the glass, doesn’t see the text at all.

Set it up

  1. Open the online teleprompter on the tablet, laptop or phone that will sit under the glass.
  2. Paste the script and tick Mirror (for a glass teleprompter).
  3. Press Start and place the screen under the glass, text facing up.
  4. Control the speed from a keyboard, or let it follow your voice.

Which screen to use

A tablet is the usual choice: big enough to read from a few feet away, light enough for a small rig. Turn the brightness to maximum: the glass reflects only part of the light.

FAQ

How do I mirror text on a teleprompter?

Turn on mirror mode: the text is flipped horizontally so it reads correctly once reflected in the glass.

Do I need mirror mode without glass?

No. Reading straight from a screen, keep the text normal.

Does voice follow work mirrored?

Yes. Mirroring changes only how the text is drawn.
